The Trump administration continues to assert that Iran’s primary objective is the development of a nuclear weapon intended to threaten the United States.
During a media briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Iran “refused to embrace peace, making it clear that their top priority was the construction of a nuclear weapon.”
She further commented, “Iran turned away from peaceful resolution because the regime’s leadership, whom we label as terrorists, is focused on creating nuclear weapons to target Americans and our allies.”
In contrast, the Iranian government has previously asserted that their nuclear program is dedicated to civil energy purposes and that they have no intention of developing nuclear arms.
Leavitt also mentioned that President Trump authorized military strikes based on a strong intuition that the Iranian regime was plotting an attack on the United States.
“The president faced a critical decision: whether the United States should utilize its military capabilities to preemptively neutralize a threat that has been looming over our nation for 47 years, or whether, as commander in chief, he should stand by and witness a potential attack by the rogue Iranian regime on our people in the region,” she explained.
