Brian Houston, the found of global megachurch Hillsong, has resigned after an internal investigation.
The Hillsong board confirmed it had accepted Mr Houston’s resignation as global senior pastor and thanked him and wife Bobbie for their service to the church.
Last week, Hillsong revealed an internal investigation had found two incidents involving Mr Houston had breached its moral code.
“We understand there will be much emotion at this news, and we all share these feelings,” the Hillsong board said in a statement this afternoon.
“Hillsong Church was birthed out of Brian and Bobbie’s obedience and commitment to the call of God and we are extremely grateful for all that Brian and Bobbie have given to build His house.
The church said “we acknowledge that change is needed” and said it will undergo “an independent review of our governance structure and processes”.
