Former Attorney General Eric Holder stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday that there was “no factual basis” for the Trump administration’s probes into prominent Democrats.
Host Kristen Welker inquired, “President Trump has instigated investigations into many of his alleged political adversaries, such as former President Barack Obama and New York Attorney General Letitia James, along with Democratic Senator Adam Schiff. These are just a few individuals you’ve described as victims of the, quote, weaponization of the Justice Department. This is the same criticism President Trump has levied against the DOJ during former President Biden’s tenure. So, how do you address President Trump’s argument that it was the Biden Justice Department that initiated this?”
Holder replied, “Well, I think that’s entirely inconsistent with the facts. There was a foundation for all of the actions, a rationale for the investigations, the steps undertaken by the Justice Department. I would ask those within the Justice Department now, those within the White House because they are tightly aligned in unprecedented ways, where the White House is essentially directing the Justice Department’s investigatory actions. What, in fact, is the foundation that you are examining? What’s the basis for the investigation when it concerns Senator Schiff, Attorney General James? It’s certainly ridiculous to consider investigating President Obama for actions he supposedly took. There’s simply no factual basis for these investigations.”
