‘House Of The Dragon’ Earns Steady Audience Growth, Hitting Season 2 High

House of the Dragon viewership is steadily climbing as Season 2 progresses.

Episode 4, titled “A Dance of Dragons,” debuted Sunday night to 8.1M viewers in the U.S. across linear and streaming, making it the most-watched of the season thus far, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.

The company also says that streaming for Season 2 reached an overall high from July 1 to 7, likely as audiences took advantage of the July 4 holiday to catch up on what they’d missed. As of now, the Season 2 premiere is approaching 25M viewers.

Episode 4 is up just slightly from the Season 2 premiere, which drew 7.8M viewers. The Game of Thrones prequel series took a bit of a hit with its second season, considering that the Season 1 premiere drew about 10M viewers in its debut night.

However, the series appears to be finding its footing again with this steady audience growth. Episode 4’s viewership isn’t too far off from the Season 1 finale, which managed around 9M.

That’s sort of small potatoes when taking into account that the GoT series finale lured more than 19.3 million viewers in 2019, but the only fare pulling that big of an audience in the U.S. these days is live sports and the occasional political telecast.

House of the Dragon is from co-creator/executive producers George R.R. Martin; co-creator/co-showrunner/EP Ryan Condal; co-showrunner/EP/director, Miguel Sapochnik; and EPs Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis, Ron Schmidt. It’s based on Martin’s Fire & Blood.
