As the new week begins, parts of Western Australia are bracing for their hottest day in over a year, thanks to a stifling mix of scorching winds and temperatures expected to soar above 40 degrees Celsius.

A deep trough is developing over the Pilbara region and will gradually move down the west coast. This weather pattern is set to push temperatures in Perth to a high of 35 degrees, with much of the west coast reaching the mid-to-high 30s. Geraldton is anticipated to swelter at 40 degrees, while the inland areas of Gascoyne and the Central West are predicted to exceed this mark.

According to Weatherzone, for some regions in the state, tomorrow will mark the hottest day since last autumn, underscoring the intensity of this heatwave.

Specifically, the Midwest Coast and Midwest Inland, encompassing areas such as Geraldton, Northampton, Chapman Valley, Mingenew, Morawa, Perenjori, and Three Springs, will be under an extreme fire danger alert.

The trough is expected to generate moisture, which could cause thunderstorms across the western and southwestern parts of the state from as early as tomorrow.

But, as the week goes on, temperatures will fall.

Perth will likely see storms beginning on Wednesday and Thursday, with the mercury expected to drop to 26 degrees by Saturday.

Storms will lash Geraldton and Gascoyne starting tomorrow and into Tuesday before conditions clear.

Temperatures will fall to 26 degrees in Geraldton and 34 degrees in Gascoyne by Saturday.
