Martha Stewart’s granddaughter pressures her to speak up about ICE

Entrepreneur Martha Stewart felt compelled to weigh in on the state of the nation after being pressured by her granddaughter to say something.

Martha Stewart, renowned for her domestic expertise, rarely ventures into the political arena. However, on Monday, she made an exception by sharing a poignant text message she received from her 14-year-old granddaughter, Jude Stewart, over the weekend. The message urged, “I’m not sure it’s excusable to not be speaking up right now.”

Though Stewart chose not to disclose further details of their exchange, the sentiment prompted her to address recent ICE activities in Minnesota, particularly in light of the tragic killing of an ICU nurse on Saturday.

In an Instagram post, Stewart explained, “My granddaughter wrote this to me yesterday; she is fourteen and sensitive to what’s going on in our country, as we all should be.” She expressed her dismay, stating, “I am disheartened and saddened daily that we cannot show sympathy for those in distress, that immigrants—of whom many of us are or are descended from—are deemed unwelcome, that peaceful demonstrations cannot convey our frustrations, and that federal troops can attack and even kill us.”

Stewart’s typical avoidance of political discourse was noted during a 2011 CNN interview when she was described as a successful businesswoman and an active Republican. However, Stewart, now 84, clarified her political stance, asserting she has “always been a registered Democrat.”

In her Instagram post, Stewart urged for transformative action, concluding emphatically, “Things must and have to change quickly and peacefully.”

“Things must and have to change quickly and peacefully,” she concluded in her post.

Stewart subtly endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race, but is no stranger to herself competing with President Trump. In 2005, the pair hosted different versions of the reality show “The Apprentice.”

Trump wrote Stewart a note when her show was shut down after one season that read “I knew it would fail as soon as I first saw it,” according to Newsweek.

Trump hosted “The Apprentice” from 2004 to 2015.
