Pilot killed in Air Canada crash identified
Tragedy struck at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday when an Air Canada flight was involved in a fatal collision, claiming the life of pilot Antoine Forest. Forest, a 30-year-old from Coteau-du-Lac in Quebec, was identified as one of the two pilots who perished in the accident.
Forest had been serving as a CRJ First Officer with Jazz Aviation since December 2022, a detail he proudly shared on his social media profiles. His passion for aviation was evident in his academic and professional journey, having studied at Cegep de Chicoutim before gaining experience as a pilot with Air Saguenay and Exact Air.
The crash not only took Forest’s life but also resulted in at least 41 other individuals being hospitalized. The collision occurred under harrowing circumstances: a firetruck was crossing the tarmac shortly before midnight. The vehicle had received clearance to investigate another aircraft that had reported an unusual odor onboard, just as Forest’s regional jet was making its landing on the runway.
This incident has cast a shadow over the aviation community, reminding us of the inherent risks involved in air travel and the dedication of those who ensure our safety in the skies.
