CHICAGO (CBS) — Public schools in Illinois will now be required to teach Asian American history after a new law was signed by Gov. JB Pritzker.

It’s the first law of its kind in the nation.

“This makes it so that starting in 2022, in the 2022 school year, ,every high school graduate of Illinois will know about the legalized internment camps here in the United States during World War II.

Students will also learn about the history of Asian Americans in Illinois and the rest of the Midwest.
