I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’s Richard Madeley has revealed that a ‘funny turn’ sparked his unexpected hospital dash that forced him to pull out of the show.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 65, appeared alongside his fellow campmates on Wednesday’s ITV special Legends Of The Castle after sparking concern with his health scare after just three days on the show.

Richard, who had to pull out of I’m A Celebrity after breaking the show’s Covid-safe bubble, was described as a ‘friend and ally’ by co-star Arlene Phillips, as they reflected on their turbulent time in Gwrych Castle.

Discussing his unexpected hospital dash, Richard said: ‘I think what happened was, I can only describe it as a funny turn, so I was carted off to hospital.’

Arlene confessed she was devastated when Richard had to withdraw from the show, saying: ‘It was really hard for me when Richard left because he was my friend, my ally and he was closest to my age, I had a hard time picking myself up from that.’

Snoochie Shy added: ‘We’d only known him for 24 hours at the that point, but we made a bond.’

Richard, who was paid a rumoured £200,000 to appear on the show, recently revealed extreme dehydration and not sleeping for 20 hours led to his hospital visit which ultimately caused his departure.

In a major blow to the show as one of their top signings, he was taken ill after participating in a gruelling trial and was unable to return as he had broken the show’s ‘Covid bubble’.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the star said: ‘I think I got dehydrated. It was actually quite disturbing. I’d been up for 20 hours, I don’t think I got to bed until 4, 4.30 in the morning…

Fans grew concerned for the star’s health after seeing him shaking following a freezing trial aired on Wednesday, which saw him diving into fish guts.

Richard denied suggestions the trial had made him ill, saying: ‘I don’t think there was anything dangerous in the trial, I thought the trial was impossible to achieve. The knots had been tied incredibly tight.

‘I did that trial 36 hours before I fell ill. I do feel the trial was un-doable but it was not to do with why I fell ill.’

During the Legends Of The Castle special, the I’m A Celebrity class of 2021 discussed their harrowing evacuation from Wales’ Gwrych Castle due to Storm Arwen.

The stars revealed what happened when they realised extreme weather meant they had to be removed for their own safety and how they felt upon returning to quarantine.

The show was  forced off-air in late November for two days after the extreme weather caused technical damage on set.

Snoochie Shy said: ‘We didn’t know the extent of how bad the storm actually was when we were inside.

‘When we were told we had to leave and go back into isolation again I actually started crying.’

Frankie Bridge, who finished in third place said: ‘I remember walking into the bedroom and there were leaves everywhere, we soon realised things were getting serious when they moved us into the Grand Hall.

Talking about their return to camp, Frankie said: ‘We were all just so excited to be back together’.

Danny Miller, who became the new King of the Castle on Sunday, said it was a wrench to be removed from camp when the stars were just getting into the swing of castle life.

He said: ‘For me the storm was a massive pause in that whole journey, it was something I was gutted about as we’d just started to get used to camp life in this crazy but amazing show.’

Addressing the show’s return following Storm Arwen on November 30, host Declan Donnelly quipped: ‘Hello! It’s been a crazy few days but the castle is back in business and the storm clouds have almost cleared on I’m A Celebrity!’

Co-host Ant McPartlin added: ‘It feels so good to be back, we haven’t been with you since Friday as it caused a lot of damage the storm did. The castle was fine though, it turns out these places are built to last! We were working hard to get the show back up, and the team did an incredible job.’

Danny Miller became the surprise winner of the show, beating Simon Gregson and Frankie.

The final four I’m A Celebrity contestants, also including David Ginola, reportedly partied until five in the morning at a swanky Welsh hotel Palé Hall.

A source told The Sun: ‘It was a proper knees-up. They all had to stick around until lunchtime the next day to speak to TV shows like Good Morning Britain and This Morning, then Frankie was due on Loose Women.

‘So as reunions with family had to wait, they decided to make the most of their last night together.’

The hotel costs up to £591 per night, and the source added: ‘Palé Hall is super luxurious. I’m sure David especially would have tucked into some of those French wines.’

MailOnline has contacted the show’s representative for further comment.

Winner Danny looked bleary eyed as he conducted interviews on Monday morning with Good Morning Britain and Lorraine and told of how he had been up all night and said: ‘Blame David Ginola.’
