One dead after 12 shot in mass shooting: North Carolina sheriff

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (WJZY) — A mass shooting incident in Hickory, North Carolina, has resulted in one fatality and at least 12 injuries, as confirmed by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, following reports of multiple shootings at a location within the Mountain View community, located approximately 60 miles north of Charlotte.

Authorities have indicated that 12 individuals were affected; one has been pronounced dead, another is in critical condition, and 10 others are hospitalized with serious injuries.

As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made, but investigators from the Hickory Police Department and special agents from the State Bureau of Investigation are working to establish a motive and to identify any suspects.

Reports surfaced Sunday morning that the incident may have occurred at a large party involving high school-aged students. The Catawba County Schools told Nexstar’s WJZY in a statement that it had “no information at this time regarding whether any of our students were involved in the mass shooting incident.”
