APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in a Wisconsin town are urging residents to refrain from feeding wild turkeys. This advisory stems from a noticeable increase in the turkey population in the Memorial Park neighborhood of Appleton, which is leading to various public safety issues.
A social media post from the Appleton Police Department depicts a wild turkey pursuing a Community Service vehicle, with officers highlighting the significant growth in the local wild turkey numbers in recent years.
These turkeys have been reportedly seen at busy intersections, pecking at vehicles, disrupting cyclists and motorcyclists, and contributing to traffic delays.
While we all appreciate wildlife, the safety of our community is a priority. To help prevent further issues, please avoid feeding wild turkeys. Appleton city ordinance prohibits feeding wild animals, as it encourages them to establish a presence in urban areas.
