The close friend of Justin Stein who housed the accused murderer for days before  police arrested him after allegedly killing Charlise Mutten said Stein was ‘relaxed’ and ‘unconcerned’ and just ‘basically ate and slept’.

Jason Tucker, 45, said Stein couch surfed in his Surry Hills apartment in a Housing Department complex, a putrid-smelling, cockroach-infested block of 20 flats which is strewn with furniture and where residents display threatening behaviour and weird signs adorn their doors.

When Daily Mail Australia spoke exclusively with Mr Tucker, he said that Stein had not seemed stressed and just wanted to stay for a few days.

‘Justin’s never got a bad thing to say, he’s never got a bad bone in his body,’ he said.

He said Stein’s stay at the housing block, where Daily Mail Australia was threatened by one resident on Thursday, was uneventful until police arrived to arrest him on Tuesday night last week.

When the police arrived and stormed through the front door to come up to his flat to arrest Stein, it had been ‘scary’ and ‘alarming’.

But the arrest was over very quickly with the police getting Justin – who as he was being handcuffed asked him to telephone his mother Annemie and get a lawyer – and leaving for Surry Hills Police Centre.

Mr Tucker was insistent that NSW Police keep an open mind about Charlise Mutten’s alleged murder.

The red ute was captured on CCTV with a barrel-shaped object under a blue tarpaulin and towing a boat, and police have alleged that Justin Stein tried twice to launch the vessel at different boat ramps but had failed to do so.

‘Justin has a boat licence,” Mr Tucker told Daily Mail Australia, ‘he knows how to operate a boat.’

This fact helped boost Mr Tucker’s belief that ‘it was someone else driving that ute’.

Mr Tucker, who is 203cm tall and slow moving, said Justin was also the sort of person who ‘was never in a hurry’ and was ‘definitely not’ responsible for Charlise’s death.

He said he would go visit Stein in Silverwater prison, where the 31-year-old is being held on remand until his next court appearance in March.

Mr Tucker suggested he would fight for him in the belief that police have the ‘wrong person’ in relation to Charlise’s alleged killer they needed to find out ‘who was really driving that car’

‘No way he’s capable of killing a nine-year-old girl, no way,’ he said.

‘I’ll back Justin to the day I die. If they want to battle, they’ll have to battle me.

‘Ive got a red button that goes and anyone who gets it pushed, look out.’

He agreed Stein had a drug addiction to heroin, but ‘addiction has got nothing to do with f***ing killing someone’.

Mr Tucker has met Charlise’s mother Kallista Mutten ‘three or four times’, described her as ‘a little crazy, out there’.

He had first met her in August last year when she came down to Sydney with Justin in the ute when he drove down from Mount Wilson for a visit.

He described Justin Stein, who he believes he met in Kings Cross ‘maybe closer to ten years ago’ as ‘a lover not a fighter. I’ve never seen him get violent. He hardly even swears, let alone kill a girl.

Daily Mail Australia has revealed that Ms Mutten spent four weeks last November in the exclusive rehabilitation and psychiatric facility, the Sydney Clinic

A fellow patient remembers Ms Mutten speaking continually of her ‘wealthy fiance’ and boasting of him having sex with Stein in the back of his ute after he visited her at the $20,000-a-month clinic.

Jason Tucker said he believed Kallista suffered from mental health problems and he had personally observed her losing her composure.

‘She’s diagnosed with mental health (problems). Different things trigger different things in people, other people react, you just don’t know.’

Police arrrested Justin Stein at the housing commission block (asbove, right) on Tuesday night last week and charged him with the alleged murder of nine-year-old Charlise Mutten

He suggested that with Justin now on remand in prison, Ms Mutten would have little means of transport and would be in reduced circumstances.

‘(Kallista) doesn’t have a car. She’s got nothing except Justin,’ he said.

Mr Tucker described Justin’s demeanour when police came knocking to arrest him, saying ‘he was so shocked and surprised’.

Since the arrest at his flat, Jason Tucker said he ‘hasn’t slept’.
