Investigators focus on Annie Guthrie's house in search for mom Nancy

Late Saturday night, investigators carried out an extensive search at the home of Annie Guthrie, the sister of Savannah Guthrie, as they intensified efforts to uncover evidence related to the mysterious disappearance of their mother, Nancy.

As the investigation into the whereabouts of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie entered its second week, police revisited Annie’s residence in Tucson, Arizona. Officers were observed meticulously photographing the interior over several hours late into the night.

A notable development during the search was the arrival of an agent carrying a silver briefcase into the house. Observers, including journalists on the scene, found it challenging to discern what specific items or images were being captured or collected by the authorities.

This was not the first time Annie’s home had been searched. Earlier in the week, law enforcement officials had already combed through the property. Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, were reportedly the last individuals to have seen Nancy after dining with her on January 31, just hours before she vanished.

While officials have yet to disclose any new evidence obtained from the recent search, it follows the recovery of a vehicle from Nancy’s garage and the removal of a camera from her roof, elements that had seemingly been overlooked in earlier investigations.

Prior to the nighttime search, Annie appeared in a striking video alongside her siblings, including Today Show host Savannah and their brother Camron, addressing the kidnappers of their mother directly through social media.

The siblings directed their remarks to the kidnappers, telling them they ‘received your message’ and ‘will pay’ ransom demands.

Savannah did not offer details over the communication her family received nor the demands that she agreed to pay, but appeared to indicate that her family had been contacted directly by those claiming to hold her mother hostage.

Outside the home on Saturday evening, NewsNation reporter Brian Entin shared footage from the scene showing camera flashes in a number of rooms throughout Annie’s home, including two bedrooms and a large family room.

Entin said a high number of photographs were being taken inside the home, and several law enforcement vehicles waited outside while the search was carried out for several hours.

Another reporter at the scene, Fox News’s Michael Ruiz, said journalists had been kept at a distance from the home as photographs were being taken, and said the media was in the dark over why agents had returned.

He questioned in an X post: ‘My question is why would you go back to take photographs in the dead of night?’

While it is unclear what prompted investigators to return to Annie’s home, it came just hours after she appeared alongside Savannah in a video shared to social media.

The siblings spoke directly to their mother’s captors in the clip, which follows a series of reported ‘ransom notes’ being sent to TMZ and KOLD newsrooms in the week since Nancy was abducted from her home.

The previous ‘ransom letters’ demanded millions in Bitcoin in exchange for Nancy’s return, and set a final deadline of Monday for payment to be made ‘or else’, TMZ said.

Savannah and her siblings previously shared a video this week demanding ‘proof of life’ of their mother after news broke that ransom demands had been made to TMZ and KOLD.

It is unclear if any proof of life has been made, but Savannah’s latest video appears to indicate her family believe they have been contacted by her legitimate abductors.

At the same time Savannah and her siblings were sharing their devastating video, the man in charge of the search for their mother, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, was seen in exclusive Daily Mail images enjoying a basketball game.

Nanos, whose face has been plastered across national media for the past six days, was seen in a khaki hoodie top amid spectators watching number one ranked Arizona Wildcats defeat Oklahoma State 47-84 at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson.

But the decision to take time out for the game has not gone down well with deputies swamped with chasing leads as the clock ticks unmercifully for the 84-year-old.

‘It’s tone deaf while Nancy is still out there’, one senior source inside the sheriff’s department told the Daily Mail.

‘Everybody deserves, of course, their time off. It’s been a very stressful, hard, long week,’ the law enforcement source said.

‘But given how hard detectives and search and rescue are working, including all the overtime they’re doing, it’s a poor decision and it doesn’t look good for the agency.

‘It just seems very odd given how emotional he was throughout the week during interviews, saying he believes she’s still alive and how desperate he is to find her.’

Nanos said on Friday that he is still holding out hope of returning Nancy to her family, and said that he believes she is ‘still alive.’

While Nanos offered an optimistic view of the search, he previously admitted investigators are in a race against time, with Nancy suffering health problems and is believed to be without daily medications.

In separate messages sent to TMZ and KOLD earlier this week, deadlines of 5pm on Thursday and a more serious deadline of Monday evening were set for millions in Bitcoin to be paid – ‘or else.’

Following the passage of the first deadline, Camron shared another video to social media pleading for his mother’s abductors to contact the family.

‘Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you,’ he said. ‘We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward.

‘But first we have to know that you have our mom. We want to talk to you, and we are waiting for contact.’

With no suspects or persons of interest publicly named, President Donald Trump suggested the investigation had progressed promisingly on Friday evening.

Trump told reporters on Air Force One that the investigation was going ‘very well’, and said he understands investigators ‘have some clues that I think are very strong.’

‘We could have some answers coming up fairly soon,’ Trump teased, saying that ‘a lot has taken place in the last couple hours’ in the search.

Officials previously said they have no reason to suspect the abduction is tied to Nancy’s daughter Savannah’s celebrity, but said they have not ruled out any inquiries.
