The shocking moment two boaters leapt into the water off the coast of Michigan as their vessel erupted into flames has been captured on video. 

The pair were trapped on board a 21-foot Baja as it caught fire on West Grand Traverse Bay.

Nathan Greenwood and his wife were boating nearby and spotted the speed boat engulfed in black smoke. 

Video shows the Greenwoods approaching the boat as the flames, which appeared to have started in the engine compartment, become visible.

They warn the two passengers on board that it is too late to try to tackle the blaze and that they need to get away from the boat.

The Greenwoods managed to pull the stranded boaters safely out of the water.

‘I knew very quickly that if they did not get off the boat, they were either going to pass out from the inhalation of the smoke, the heat, or it would end up eventually exploding,’ Nathan said of the July 21 incident. 

‘It’s really fortunate, because within three seconds of them jumping off of the boat, it exploded.’

Peninsula Township Fire Chief Fred Gilstorff told WPBN that the vessel ultimately sank due to the extra water brought onboard.

The station also reported that the Peninsula Fire Department had to clean up a gas spill linked to the incident.
