JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person in Jacksonville woke up happy as ever Wednesday after winning the second tier prize of $1 million from Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, according to the Florida Lottery.
A person in Illinois woke up even happier Wednesday after winning the jackpot prize of $344 million from the Mega Millions’ Tuesday drawing.
The winning numbers were 1-5-17-39-62, and the gold Mega Ball was 8. The Mega Millions jackpot winner in Illinois got all five numbers correct plus the Mega Ball, while the person in Jacksonville got all five numbers correct, but not the mega ball, thus winning the second tier prize.
The million-dollar winning ticket was bought from Oak & Stockton Corner, a convenience store located at 1620 Stockton St. on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to the Florida Lottery.
The Florida Lottery’s website states that winners of a draw game like the Mega Millions must claim their prize within 180 days after the draw date. In this case, the soon-to-be new millionaire from Jacksonville has until Sept. 22 to claim their winning ticket.
Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 p.m. to 11:01 p.m.
The overall odds of winning a prize in the Mega Millions game are one in 24, and the odds of winning the jackpot prize are one in 302,575,350, according to the Florida Lottery.
