The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released bodycam video of a March 12 shootout where an officer was injured and a man was killed Friday.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has released bodycam footage from a March 12 incident where an officer was shot in the foot and a man was killed during a shootout between him and police.
The incident happened in the Osceola Forest neighborhood. JSO Officer A.C. Gaulding attempted to pull over 33-year-old Brandon White on Ribault Avenue. According to JSO, White was slow to comply and passed several safe locations before he eventually stopped in a driveway.
When the vehicle stopped, White shot at Gaulding with a handgun and struck him in the foot. The video shows a handgun and a rifle that were inside White’s car. JSO also determined he was wearing body armor.
Gaulding returned fire as he tried to take cover, and White was struck multiple times.
This is when White can be seen in the video grabbing a rifle and attempting to get out of his car.
White then grabbed a rifle and attempted to get out of his vehicle. Gaulding again fired his gun, incapacitating White.
He then retreats behind a fence and shoots several more times, then calls for backup. He tells officers on the radio that he has been struck in the foot, and that he is retreating because the suspect has a gun and a rifle. The video shows additional officers arrive to render aid to White.
JSO says White later died at the hospital. He had a short criminal history, with past charges of discharging a firearm in public and resisting an officer without violence.
