The Princess of Wales and the First Lady of the United States are set to visit a Scout troop during Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK next week.

Kate, 43, is scheduled to meet with Melania Trump, 55, at Frogmore Gardens located in the Home Park of Windsor Castle on Thursday. They will engage with chief scout Dwayne Fields and participants of the Scouts’ Squirrels program.

During their meeting, the Princess—Joint President of the Scouts since 2020—and Mrs. Trump will explore the Squirrels’ Go Wild nature badge, which is given to young enthusiasts who have a passion for the environment.

This event is part of a series of engagements outlined by Buckingham Palace in anticipation of the state visit, which is set to commence on Tuesday and conclude on Thursday.

The specific details of the Trumps’ welcome on Tuesday evening are yet uncertain, especially following the unexpected resignation of US Ambassador Lord Mandelson, due to his associations with Jeffrey Epstein.

Mr and Mrs Trump were due to be greeted by Lord Mandelson and Viscount Hood, Lord-in-Waiting, on behalf of the King.

James Roscoe, the deputy head of mission at the British embassy in Washington, has been appointed interim ambassador as of Thursday lunchtime.

While Tuesday’s activities remain private, Wednesday will involve Mr. and Mrs. Trump visiting Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb to lay a wreath. Mr. Trump admired the late Queen, and they shared a noted rapport during his 2019 visit.

On Wednesday morning, Mr and Mrs Trump will be greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales before being formally welcomed by the King and Queen.

A royal salute will be fired from the east lawn of Windsor Castle, and at the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace has said. This will then be followed by a carriage procession through the Windsor estate with Charles, Camilla, William and Kate.

The route towards the castle will be lined with members of the Armed Forces, and three military bands from the Royal Marines, Army and RAF.

It doesn’t quite meet the level of carriage procession through the streets of Windsor that was afforded to French president Emmanuel Macron during his state visit in July.

Mr Trump will then inspect a unique guard of honour at Windsor.

The Trumps will then take in the State Dining Room and a display of American memorabilia from the Royal Collection in the Green Drawing Room before the private visit to Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb at St George’s Chapel.

This will be followed by a short tour of the Chapel itself, a musical performance from the chapel choir, and a flypast by the Red Arrows and UK and US F-35s, followed by a special ‘beating retreat’ ceremony.

Later, the Trumps will dine at a grand state banquet at Windsor Castle, with speeches set to be given by both the 47th President and the King.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey says he intends to boycott the banquet to ‘send a message’ over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.

Thursday September 18 will begin at Chequers, where a guard of honour from RAF Halton and bagpipers will greet Mr Trump as he meets Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his wife, Lady Victoria.

He will have a personal viewing of the Sir Winston Churchill archives held at the grace-and-favour retreat in Buckinghamshire, before a bilateral meeting with the PM and a business reception hosted by the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves.

Mrs Trump will remain at Windsor, where she will look at Queen Mary’s Dolls House and the Royal Library before joining the Princess of Wales for the Scouts meeting.

She will later travel to Chequers where she and her husband will be bid farewell by Sir Keir and Lady Victoria, alongside The Lord Chamberlain, acting on behalf of the King.

The state visit is an unprecedented gesture towards the US leader – the first convicted felon to become American president – and goes against convention, that would normally see second-term presidents have tea or lunch with the monarch.

Both George W Bush and Barack Obama ate with the Queen on their return trips to the UK after a single state visit. Mr Trump’s successor and second-term predecessor, Joe Biden, did not have a state visit to the UK at all.

The Trumps will stay overnight at Windsor, a privilege afforded to Ronald Reagan, who became the first US president to stay at the royal residence in 1982, reported The Times.

And the guard of honour that Mr Trump will inspect will be made up of the State Colours of the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards and the Scots Guards – the first time three State Colours have featured in one procession.

The Palace said: ‘The president of the United States of America, President Donald J Trump, accompanied by the first lady, Mrs Melania Trump, will pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom as the guests of Their Majesties The King and Queen, from Wednesday 17th September to Thursday 18th September 2025. The president and first lady will stay at Windsor Castle.’
