Travis Kelce looks poised to rejoin the Kansas City Chiefs for his 14th NFL season, signaling the likely end of his off-season uncertainty, as per recent reports.
The celebrated tight end faced a period of indecision regarding his future in the NFL, amid swirling rumors about potential retirement or a departure from Kansas City.
However, the 36-year-old has reaffirmed his commitment to the Chiefs, making it clear to any interested parties in free agency that he plans to continue with Kansas City for the 2026 season, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Having clinched three Super Bowl titles, Kelce, who has spent his entire professional career with the Chiefs, is set to technically enter free agency. This occurs as the NFL’s negotiating window opens at noon ET on Monday, with his current contract nearing its end.
During this period, Kelce would be permitted to engage in discussions with other teams across the league ahead of the official start of free agency at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Given his impressive accolades and high-profile presence in Kansas City, Kelce could likely command a lucrative contract in the free agency market.

Kelce, who is set to marry Taylor Swift soon, had been deliberating his NFL future this winter
However, despite not yet inking an official new deal with the Chiefs, the message that Kelce intends to stay in Kansas City has reportedly been sent around the league to any potential suitors.
Kelce, who is believed to be marrying his A-list fiancee Taylor Swift this summer, is said to have chosen loyalty over money.
He reportedly would rather link up with Patrick Mahomes for another season and target another shot at the Super Bowl.
Kelce is an unrestricted free agent heading into Wednesday’s free agency, as his two-year, $34.25 million contract signed back in 2024 comes to an end.
While the exact details of a new contract with the Chiefs have yet to be confirmed, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that it is expected to be a one-year deal worth up to $15 million.
That figure marks a $2 million cut from his previous deal. However, she noted that nothing has yet been finalized.
While Kelce is not hitting free agency, the Chiefs are still making blockbuster moves in the market.
The franchise is signing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker, who hit free agency just weeks after leading the Seattle Seahawks to victory against the New England Patriots.
The Chiefs’ 2025 season ended in disaster when they finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs
Retirement and free agency had reportedly been on the table for the veteran tight end
Kelce’s decision comes amid multiple conflicting reports on his future with many speculating that he could finish his career somewhere other than Kansas City.
The Chiefs and Kelce endured a nightmare season last year, finishing 6-11 and missing out on the NFL postseason for the first time since 2014.
Kelce was drafted by Kansas City in 2013 out of Cincinnati and has played 192 games for the team, many of which alongside his best friend Mahomes.
The Athletic’s Russini and Jesse Newell reported on Sunday that sources around the league expected Kelce to return for another season. But, in a surprise twist, they were not sure if it would be in the red and gold of the Chiefs.
‘It isn’t a sure thing that the team he plays for would be the Kansas City Chiefs. Kelce’s representatives are expected to talk to multiple teams,’ the report claimed.
Yet, the duo did admit that, given his close ties to Kansas City and the community, it would be ‘jarring’ to see Kelce suit up for any team but the Chiefs.
Russini also reported that Kelce has had ‘conversations with several teams’ during the offseason as he weighed up a big decision.
Meanwhile, last week, NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggested that if Kelce did play on for another season it was all but guaranteed that it will be for the Chiefs.
The NFL star is expected to tie the knot with pop sensation Swift this summer
Rapoport reported that the delay was not due to any other teams being in the mix but rather the Chiefs wait to learn if Kelce was ‘1,000 percent all in’ for another season.
Kelce had previously hinted that he could be gearing up for a return when he addressed his retirement deliberation in January on his New Heights podcast with brother Jason.
‘There’s a lot of love for the game still, and I don’t think I’ll ever lose that,’ the veteran confessed. ‘It’s a tough thing to navigate but at the same time I think if my body can heal up and rest and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18-, 20-, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat.
‘I think right now it’s just finding that answer and see how the body feels after all this settles down.’
While the Chiefs endured humiliation at the weekend, Kelce proved that he still had what it takes to suit up for another year.
Kelce himself had a season to be proud of on an individual level. He ended with 851 yards and five touchdowns, in the process becoming only the third tight end in NFL history to pass 13,000 yards for his career.
Amid his offseason saga, it is also set to be a busy few months away from the NFL field for the football star.
A date for his wedding with Swift has not been confirmed, but multiple media reports believe it has been set for June in Rhode Island, and will likely be the biggest celebrity wedding of the year.
