In a tragic development, a man has been apprehended and charged in connection with the death of a two-month-old infant earlier this year, according to Chicago police. The case, which has cast a shadow over the community, involves the untimely death of baby Kayson Flowers.

Anthony Evans, a 23-year-old resident of Chicago, is facing murder charges linked to the April demise of young Kayson. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the infant’s death was a homicide, citing multiple injuries and clear evidence of child abuse.

This week, Chicago police detained Evans, marking a significant step forward in the investigation that has spanned several months. He is now charged with a serious felony: Murder with a strong probability of death or injury.

The infant’s grieving mother, Kayla Flowers, expressed her heartbreak in an interview with ABC7 in May. “My son didn’t deserve that. He was only 2 months old. He can’t fight back,” she lamented, recalling the pain of seeing her child in such a condition.

Kayla recounted the events leading up to the tragedy, explaining that after leaving Kayson in the care of another person for over a week, she retrieved him on April 28. She was informed that her son was asleep in his car seat at the time.

Kayla said after Kayson was in the care of someone else for over a week, she picked him up on April 28. She says she was told he was asleep inside his car seat before leaving.

“Me, not thinking anything of it, because it was raining, I just took my baby to the house, because I didn’t want my child to get sick. So, when I went in the house, I uncovered the stroller in the car seat, my baby was lifeless,” Kayla said.

Kayson was pronounced dead at the hospital later that day, but the family says doctors told them he had likely already been dead for six to eight hours.

“I want justice for my son,” Kayla said. “I’m not going to rest until I get justice.”

No further information about Evans’ arrest was immediately available.
