Police arrived to the woman’s home after her husband reported that she was attempting suicide and pointed a gun at them. She was injured in the ensuing incident.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has released bodycam footage from a March 11 incident where a woman was shot by police after her husband called JSO to report she was trying to attempt suicide and pointed a gun at him.
The woman, identified as 53-year-old Tiffany Leigh, shot at officers multiple times, prompting them to return fire. She was injured, but survived her gunshot wounds.
At the time of the incident, JSO said that Leigh’s husband had reported she was attempting suicide by sitting in her car with the vehicle running, in a closed garage, with a towel over her head. When he tried to stop her, she raised a gun at him, according to JSO.
This is when her husband called 911 and officers responded to her home in the area of Moose Road. Officers said Leigh left the garage when they arrived and was sitting on a bench across the street.
The new video shows the events described by officers, where Leigh fires in the direction of officers. Six officers returned fire on Leigh, and she was shot multiple times in the torso and legs.
After Leigh was struck, she fell to the ground and dropped the firearm. Officers were then able to provide emergency medical care, and she was taken to a local hospital.
