JSO seeking identity of wanted man connected to armed sexual battery incident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking to identify a wanted man said to be connected to an armed sexual battery incident.

The sheriff’s office did not say when the alleged act was committed but said it happened near Interstate 295 and Gate Parkway.

The individual is described to be a man in his 30s, about 6-foot tall with a muscular frame. He has blue eyes and brown hair; at the time of the incident, he wore black sweatpants and a black hoodie.

A composite sketch of the man in question was created to help with the search.

Police urge that if you see this man, do not approach him because he could be potentially armed and dangerous.

A JSO crime map of that general location showed 24 reported crimes within a two-mile radius dating back to January, but none of them were sex crimes.

News4JAX Crime and Safety Analyst Lakesha Burton said this could be a situation where police don’t have enough information to give the public other than a complaint about an armed sexual assault and suspect description.

“We don’t know all the details that were provided to law enforcement from the victim in this case. So, they are just providing the information that was given, which is limited in hopes that somebody may see this sketch and they possibly saw this individual come into a business or seen this person in a neighborhood,” Burton said.

Although the composite sketch is all people have to reference, it’s still a valuable investigative tool.

“Victims of this type of crime; it’s so traumatic that a lot of times, they remember four to five facial expressions So it’s important for law enforcement to get that out,” Burton said.

Without an exact time frame and location of the assault, anyone who resembles the person in the sketch could become a person of interest, but Burton said that’s not always a bad thing.

“People tend to understand the why behind officers stopping them and questioning them when they learn of this horrific crime,” Burton said.
