Hollywood veteran Malcolm McDowell confessed he’s never tuned into his daughter-in-law Lily Collins’s hit Netflix series Emily In Paris.
The 82-year-old star of A Clockwork Orange discussed the storyline, which centers around Emily Cooper, an aspiring marketing executive from the US who relocates to Paris after her company purchases a French marketing agency, simply doesn’t captivate him.
He confessed, ‘Honestly, it’s not my cup of tea, and Lily is well aware of that,’ during an interview with People. ‘However, I’m a huge admirer of my daughter-in-law. I truly believe she’s an exceptional actress.’
Malcolm’s son, filmmaker Charlie McDowell, married Lily in 2021 — and although the actor isn’t an avid viewer of her series, he couldn’t be more thrilled about her professional achievements.
He expressed, ‘She possesses such a unique charm,’ adding, ‘In my opinion, when she’s on screen, she captures all the attention. Not only is she a talented actress, but she also has an incredible presence. It’s a kind of charisma.’
The British screen legend even credited Lily, 36, whose father is music icon Phil Collins, with boosting Paris tourism thanks to the series.

‘I’m sure (it) has gone up so much from people in the United States watching and going, “Yeah, let’s go to Paris,”‘ he added.
It isn’t the first time McDowell has praised his daughter-in-law.
Last year, he compared her screen presence to Hollywood’s ultimate style icon.
‘Lily is undoubtedly a star. I’m amazed by her performances. I think she’s among the top young actresses today,’ he remarked. ‘Watching her is a delight — she has that Audrey Hepburn-like allure, which is hard to define but unmistakably there. There’s a certain glow in her eyes. She’s truly outstanding.’
And according to McDowell, Lily is just as captivating in real life. ‘She’s what you see is what you get. She’s delightful,’ he shared.
Despite his admiration, McDowell admitted he doesn’t see Lily and Charlie as often as he’d like, due to the couple spending a significant amount of time in Europe while he resides in the US.
‘They’re both wonderful people. I don’t see enough of them,’ he confessed. ‘They live in Europe a lot of the time, so I don’t really see them that much, but when I see them, it’s always great to just hang.’

‘To be honest with you, it’s not my kind of thing, and Lily knows that,’ he told People. ‘But I’m the biggest fan of my daughter-in-law. I think she’s absolutely one of the great actresses’
Earlier this month, the Et Tu star raved about their ‘absolutely gorgeous’ daughter, Tove, seven months.
‘I love being around them and just watching the antics that go on and the dynamic and the difference between them all. It’s staggering,’ he said of seeing all his grandchildren interact.
He continued: ‘They’re so different in personality and everything. It’s just beautiful to watch.’
‘Of course, being a grandfather, you’re kind of watching it from afar,’ he explained. ‘They come over and swim or something and I see them occasionally, but we live in the same town, so it’s really nice to bump into them on the street and it’s great.’
