Lionel Richie is lastest victim of Hollywood home burglary wave

Lionel Richie has become the latest Hollywood star to become the victim of a wave of burglaries sweeping Los Angeles.

In contrast to several recent high-profile burglaries where celebrities were not present, Richie was reportedly at home during the break-in.

Police were alerted to a burglary at the 76-year-old singer’s Beverly Hills residence shortly after midnight, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department, as reported by TMZ.

Fortunately, Richie’s security system activated, scaring off the intruder before they could steal any valuables.

The Daily Mail has contacted Richie’s representative for comment but hasn’t yet received a response.

Police responding to the call reportedly arrested a man named Michael John Bond on suspicion of residential burglary.

Richie is among several A-list celebrities who have experienced break-ins at their Los Angeles homes, including Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Anthony Anderson, Teddi Mellencamp, and others; Pitt pictured in London, June.

However, formal charges have reportedly not yet been filed against the suspected burglar.

The police have stated that they are continuing their investigation into the incident, reviewing security footage from Richie’s home along with other evidence collected.

The burglary at Richie’s home comes in the wake of another high-profile break-in at the home of Brad Pitt in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood in late June.

Burglars appear to have timed their crime to when Pitt was out of town and on a trip to Japan to promote his racing drama F1, which was a hit with critics and at the box office.

Last week, police announced a major development in the investigation with the arrest of three people suspected of burglarizing the actor’s home.

Police appear to have caught the trio of alleged thieves after they were allegedly linked to another burglary.

Detectives were reportedly able to use security footage taken from Pitt’s property to help identify the men.

However, police told NBC LA that the suspected burglars didn’t appear to be specifically targeting famous people.

Pitt was subsequently reported to have listed the home that was broken into.

Late last month, Teddi Mellencamp became the victim of an attempted burglary.

The former Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star revealed that a security alarm — installed by her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave’s security company — had scared the thieves away.

Shortly after revealing that she had been targeted, Mellencamp posted chilling security camera footage showing a group of men climbing over a fence and going around the side of her house in an attempt to gain entrance, before frantically running away once the security system began blaring.

In February of this year, Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban joined the long list of A-listers who have been targeted by burglars.

The couple’s Beverly Hills mansion — which they purchased for $4.7 million in 2008 — was broken into while they were out of town.

An intruder reportedly smashed a window to gain entrance, but an employee of the couple was on the property at the time and was able to successfully scare away the burglar.
