Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators are hitting the streets across the country on Saturday in protest of President Trump and his administration.
The “Hands Off!” rallies are occurring in over 1,000 cities throughout all 50 states, with nearly 400,000 individuals having registered to join the demonstrations, as stated by the progressive group Indivisible, which is among nearly 200 organizations collaborating to arrange the event.
Those protesting are calling for the cessation of billionaire influence and what they describe as “widespread corruption” in the administration, a halt to any cuts to Social Security and Medicare, and an end to assaults on trans individuals, immigrants, and other marginalized groups.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, on Capitol Hill, the Senate voted to approve a budget resolution that will initiate the execution of Trump’s domestic agenda. The resolution was passed with a 51-48 vote after a night of deliberations by the upper chamber.
The deal, which still needs to pass the House, has drawn the ire of some House Republicans, with one lawmaker even calling the resolution “unserious and disappointing.”
This all comes as the economy reels from Trump’s sweeping tariffs on U.S. trading partners after brutal few days for the stock market.
