A tragic incident unfolded in Tennessee when a young woman, only 17 years old, was fatally shot under distressing circumstances involving her former boyfriend. The accused, 18-year-old Hunter Jackson, now faces a first-degree murder charge after reportedly meeting the victim at a Kroger grocery store parking lot, leading to her untimely death.

According to authorities, the encounter took place around 8 p.m. on a Tuesday evening in the parking area of the Dickson County Kroger. The victim entered Jackson’s vehicle, and shortly thereafter, an alarming sequence of events transpired.

The Dickson Police Department released a statement explaining that Jackson and the victim had recently ended their relationship. They detailed that the young woman attempted to exit Jackson’s vehicle at a traffic light. It was during this attempt that the tragic shooting occurred, resulting in her falling from the moving car.

In the aftermath, law enforcement received a call reporting a “reckless driver” linked to an accident near the scene. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim, gravely injured with multiple gunshot wounds, at the intersection of Highway 70 East and Henslee Drive—just a short distance from the Kroger store, which is part of a larger shopping plaza adjacent to Henslee Drive.

Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the victim succumbed to her injuries, marking a sorrowful end to this harrowing event.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.

“Jackson allegedly left the scene and was later arrested at a residence in White Bluff,” the Dickson Police Department release says. “The handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.”

Jackson has allegedly been cooperating with cops during the investigation, according to local officials. He was being held this week on a $3 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, 2026.

Police say additional charges could be filed against Jackson in connection with the shooting, though officials did not specify which charges.
