A man has been charged with murder more than 18 months after a newborn baby died in a Queensland hospital.

On July 18, 2024, a newborn boy, just three weeks old, was urgently taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a severe state, although he bore no visible injuries.

Tragically, the infant passed away in the hospital four days later.

In response, detectives from the Logan Child Protection Investigation Unit and the Child Trauma Unit initiated Operation Whiskey Nell to uncover the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Recently, detectives received medical reports revealing that the infant had suffered internal injuries.

Authorities claim these injuries occurred at a residence on Rosemary Street in Greenbank.

This morning, a 25-year-old man, who had ties to the child, was taken into custody and charged with murder.

He is expected to face Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
