CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A police officer for the Town of Cicero was arrested over the weekend, accused of reporting for duty drunk and then driving his patrol car.

Late Friday, June 13, 45-year-old Officer James Kazmirski was beginning his shift at the Cicero Police Department when a fellow officer suspected he was intoxicated.

The officer contacted a supervisor, who told the department chief, who then contacted New York State Police.

Kazmirski was stopped by a supervisor in the police department parking lot after beginning to operate a marked patrol vehicle, New York State Police said. While he moved the vehicle, he wasn’t able to leave the parking lot, troopers said.

After arriving, troopers said they observed “clear indicators of intoxication, including slurred speech, glassy eyes, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage” and took him into custody.

Kazmirski agreed to a breathalyzer test, which detected a blood alcohol content of 0.21%. He was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.

Cicero Police Chief Steve Rotunno said Kazmirski has worked for the department for almost 12 years. Including time at another agency, Kazmirski has been a police officer for nearly 20 years.

He’s currently on administrative leave pending a professional standards investigation.
