Mo Salah named PFA Player of the Year for a THIRD time

Mohamed Salah has been named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year after a remarkable 2024-25 season with Liverpool, where he clinched the title and netted 29 goals to secure his fourth Golden Boot.

Salah’s career-best tally of 18 assists last season is bettered only by Kevin de Bruyne and Thierry Henry in the history of the Premier League.

Salah stands out as the first player to receive this prestigious award three times and has been included in the Premier League Team of the Year along with Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister.

The award was handed to Salah by Ian Rush, Liverpool’s all-time leading goal scorer. The 33-year-old emerged as the winner over competitors such as Mac Allister, Bruno Fernandes, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer, and Declan Rice.

‘It’s an incredible feeling. I want to thank everyone who voted for me. Doing this at the age of 33 is incredible,’ Salah said. ‘I remember ten years ago I didn’t make it at Chelsea. When you don’t succeed, it stays with you. I reflect on my journey—coming from Egypt, reaching the top level, and making history,’ he continued.

Meanwhile, Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa secured the Young Player of the Year title, surpassing contenders Liam Delap, Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri.

Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey was honored as the Women’s Players’ Player of the Year, with her new teammate Olivia Smith receiving the Women’s Young Player of the Year accolade.

Elsewhere, Man City’s James Trafford was named the Championship Player of the Year after he won promotion with Burnley last season.

Richard Kone took home the League One title after a standout season for Wycombe Wanderers while Bromley’s Michael Cheek won the League Two award.

The lavish occasion provided ample opportunity for the game’s stars and their stunning partners to strut their stuff in rather unfamiliar environments. Though, on the evidence of the glamorous attendees, many would not be out of place on paparazzi-swamped red carpets across the globe.

Former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate made an early appearance, decked out in a classic black suit. He took home the 2025 PFA Order of Merit. While, new Wrexham defender Conor Coady was joined by his wife Amie, who wowed in a one-shouldered black dress with a sheer skirt.

Elsewhere, Arsenal stars Gabriel, William Saliba and Declan Rice kept it simple on a night when the latter is among the nominees for the prestigious top prize.

Salah arrived for his date with history in a simple black suit, finished with a gold tie, a nod, perhaps, to his expectation of taking the grand prize with him back to Merseyside.

Meanwhile, Caldentey beat her Arsenal colleague Alessia Russo to the women’s Players’ Player of the Year prize.

The Spaniard was instrumental in her side’s women’s Champions League triumph and produced a stellar campaign in her debut campaign in England after joining from Barcelona.

Ahead of the start of the event, the Gunners made a point to show a united front, with their entire delegation from the men’s and women’s team stopping for a moment with the cameras.

The other nominees for the top prize in the women’s game were Manchester City team-mates Mary Fowler and Yui Hasegawa, Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert and United star Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

In addition to the glamour prizes up for grabs, the gala also recognised players from the Football League, young stars and even some coaches.

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named Young Players’ Player of the Year after holding off competition from the likes of former Bournemouth defenders Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Arsenal youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly and Chelsea striker Liam Delap.

The 23-year-old netted 14 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances for Unai Emery’s men last term and has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world this summer.

Unfortunately for Rogers, he missed out on a place in the Premier League team of the year. The midfield spots were taken by Rice and Reds duo Ryan Gravenberch and Mac Allister.
