Snacktime Cabbage Patch Kid

Cabbage Patch Kids were a big hit with kids in the 1990s. However, in 1997, Mattel was forced to recall its snacktime Cabbage Patch Kid, due to an unforeseen safety hazard.

While the dog was meant to be able to eat small foods, it was reported to have also bit kids’ fingers and hair and refused to let go.

One small girl had her doll chew most of her hair and almost got to her ear before it was deactivated.

Samsung’s flagship smartphone

In 2016, many people were happy to get Samsung’s newest flagship phone.

However, as customers go to charge their phones, a battery defect leads to some of the phones catching fire and even blowing up.

On October 10, 2016, the company decided to recall the smartphone and end the production of it the following day.

Slap bracelets

Slap bracelets became popular in the ’90s for being just as fun to use as they were to wear.

To use the bracelet, you would take the long straight band and hit it onto your wrist to get it to tighten around the child’s wrist.

The bracelet was covered with rubber and silicone, so it was comfortable to wear at first.

However, as the material wore away, kids began smacking themselves with a metal rod, creating its own hazard.

MOON SHOES

Moon Shoes sounded like the perfect thing to play outside with.

The shoes were shaped like sandals, with small trampoline soles to help kids bounce everywhere they chose.

However, the elastic straps were found to sometimes break while kids were jumping. This would lead to serious ankle injuries.

CLACKERS

Clackers gained popularity due to its simplicity, being two hard balls attached to a string.

Kids loved them because you could wiggle them around and it would make a large “clack” sound that kids enjoy.

However, when shaking the string too fast, the acrylic plastic that the balls were made of would often hit together, shattering apart, and injuring children in the process.

GILBERT GLASS BLOWING KIT

Those who wanted their kids to create intricate art might have gifted their children The Gilbert Glass-Blowing Kit.

The kit came with a tube, open flame, and glass, which often led to a kid burning themselves or shattering said glass before they had a chance to turn it into art.

LAWN DARTS

Lawn darts were large darts that came with metal tips, similar to a javelin. they would be able to be used to throw around your yard at a large distance.

However, the pointed tips were too sharp for most people, causing many injuries and eventually were taken off the shelves.
