A Norwegian Cruise Line employee, who lives in Nassau County, was arrested at an LA port for possessing child sexual abuse materials.
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — A Norwegian Cruise Line employee from Fernandina has been arrested on 13 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, according to a release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Theodore Burbank Pappas, Jr., 47, was arrested by the Los Angeles Port Police and is currently being held at the Los Angeles Police Department Detention Facility with no bond. He will be extradited to Florida and prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, Fourth Judicial Circuit.
FDLE says they began investigating Pappas when agents received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. They had flagged an online account uploading files with images of children being sexually abused, according to FDLE.
The investigation revealed that the account was registered in Nassau County and that Pappas was the operator, FDLE said. The investigation also found that he worked for Norwegian and he was then arrested at the Port of Los Angeles.
In addition to the child sexual abuse material charges, he is also charged with one count each of transmission of child sexual abuse material and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, which are all felonies.
The FDLE Jacksonville Division continues to investigate this case.
First Coast News reached out to Norwegian for a statement, and to clarify if Pappas was working for them when he was arrested.
