JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Tragedy struck on Wednesday night as a fatal collision claimed the life of a man and left a woman injured on Monument Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported.

The accident unfolded around 5:50 p.m., a time when many are navigating the evening commute. The crash site, near the intersection with Lee Road, was marked by a dramatic scene: a Jeep, severely damaged and overturned, lay upended on the roadside.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred when a woman in her 30s was driving her Jeep eastbound on Monument Road, while a man in his late 50s was traveling westbound in a Kia. The collision took place as the man attempted a left turn onto Lee Road, leading to the Jeep rolling over into a nearby empty retention pond.

Emergency services rushed both drivers to a hospital, but tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving. Authorities confirmed that the woman is currently in a stable condition.
