Former Channel 10 newsreader Tracey Spicer has revealed she is battling Covid-19

The journalist and author, 55, shared her diagnosis on social media earlier this week and also wrote a lengthy post about her symptoms on LinkedIn on Wednesday.

Spicer, who received a positive result from a PCR test, said her symptoms ‘hit like a freight train’ and also described the fatigue from the virus as ‘debilitating’.

Tracey said she first had a RAT test (rapid antigen test) that confirmed she had coronavirus, before getting a PCR test.

She said her symptoms began on Sunday.

‘On Sunday morning, I felt fabulous. Then, I felt a tickle in the back of my throat. This is not unusual as I often get hayfever,’ she said.

After doing a RAT test, that came back positive, Tracey said she ‘immediately self-isolated’ with her family.

‘Late that afternoon, it hit like a freight train. My head felt like it was in a vice. Then came the nasal congestion and sneezing. Finally that evening, the dry cough and fever,’ she explained.

Tracey said she soon got a PCR test and she tested positive to Covid-19, but her children and husband tested negative.

‘The fatigue is – frankly – debilitating. Yesterday afternoon, I got out of bed to water the garden. After 10 minutes on my feet, I had to lie down again. Today, it’s gone to my chest. I’m coughing like a two-packet-a-day smoker.’

In her post, Tracey urged followers to get tested upon suffering any symptoms, even if you think it’s hay fever.

She also urged people to get their booster shots and thanked medical workers for their hard work on the frontline amid the pandemic.

Tracey added: ‘Heartfelt thanks to hubby and the kids, who’ve been ferrying meals, medicine and toilet paper to my bedroom door. This must be so difficult to deal with if you live alone, or in an isolated area.’

‘Take care and stay safe,’ she finished.

Tracey is an Walkley Award winning journalist who rose to fame as a newsreader on Ten Eyewitness News.

In September last year, she revealed that she suffers from panic attacks that have been so severe, she has fainted on television.

She told Body+Soul magazine at the time: ‘Despite setting an extremely low bar in the early 1990s, I sustained a 30-year career in the media by learning to manage performance nerves, panic attacks and, at times, crippling anxiety.’
