LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A massive fire in North Las Vegas on Tuesday morning raged at a site where apartments are under construction. The black smoke could be seen from around the valley.

More than one building was involved in the fire, according to Kathleen Richards, North Las Vegas communications manager.

A construction worker was injured in the fire. He was transported to University Medical Center with burn injuries, and a second person is being evaluated at the scene, Richards said.

City records show an inspection of the site was scheduled for yesterday, Aug. 4, but Richards confirmed to local affiliate KLAS that the inspection was rescheduled for today.

The inspection scheduled was routine for new construction, for insulation, drywall, and sheer walls on a few buildings, Richards told 8 News Now.

The fire was reported around 7 a.m. at 6500 N. Fifth Street, near Centennial Parkway in what appears to be an apartment complex under construction.

Northbound 5th Avenue is currently closed to traffic at Centennial Parkway. Crews will remain on the site to check for hot spots.

This is a developing story. Please check back for details.
