A motorcycle gang member who was arrested over a month ago for fleeing a traffic stop now faces more charges after detectives determined that he altered the vehicle identification numbers (VIN) on the engine of the motorcycle he used in attempting to flee from law enforcement.

Robert Patrick Wilson, 31, of Ocala and known member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, remains in custody at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility after he was arrested again while being held on the original charges.

Investigators say he now faces two additional felony counts of possession of a vehicle with altered VINs.

Wilson is being held on a $29,500 total bond on the new charges plus the three felonies and six misdemeanors he was originally arrested for during Biketoberfest 2022, according to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.

“We were processing this dirtbag’s motorcycle for forfeiture when we determined the VINs were altered,” Sheriff Staly added. “It looks like he took the engine from another motorcycle he still owed money on and installed it onto the motorcycle he used while fleeing from us and had grinded the VINs off the engine and transmission to hide it from the finance company. Fortunately, we were able to use a special chemical solution to recover one of the VIN numbers he had grinded off. It’s another great example of our detectives leaving no stone unturned when conducting investigations.”

Deputies say a license plate check on the 2009 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic Wilson rode while fleeing the traffic stop was registered to a 2016 Harley-Davidson.

Detectives then learned that Wilson and another man who died in March 2021 were the co-owners of both motorcycles. Detectives believe money is still owed to the company that financed the 2016 Harley and the engine swap was made so the finance company couldn’t repossess the newer Harley.

Wilson was initially arrested on October 15, 2022, after FCSO received notification from Volusia County law enforcement of a motorcyclist who was heading north on U.S. 1 after he fled from an Ormond Beach Police Department (OBPD) during an attempted traffic stop.

Shortly after the BOLO (Be On The Lookout) was issued, a Flagler County Deputy Sheriff located Wilson on the 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle as it fled north on U.S. 1 near Belle Terre Parkway in a reckless manner. Wilson ignored the Deputy’s lights and sirens and continued to flee into the city of Bunnell. The Deputy did not pursue Wilson but watched from a distance as the motorcycle fled.

Another Deputy Sheriff saw Wilson near Water Oak Road in the Mondex area of Flagler County, but Wilson again fled from this traffic stop. Deputies estimated Wilson was traveling between 70 and 120 miles per hour during this time and was throwing items out of his pockets as he fled from the traffic stop attempts.

Wilson was finally taken into custody during the third traffic stop attempt after his motorcycle ran out of gas on State Road 100 near Shell Bluff in western Flagler County.

He was arrested for two felony counts of fleeing and eluding with disregard of the safety to persons or property.

Wilson also received six traffic citations related to his traffic violations, including reckless driving, failing to obey law enforcement, and knowingly driving with a suspended license. OBPD also filed a fleeing and eluding charge against Wilson.

At the time of his initial arrest, Wilson was out on bond for an aggravated battery charge in Marion County.
