Danville Fire Dept. responds to overnight fire at city-owned 'taxpayer' building

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Fire Department was actively engaged in combating a fire that lasted five hours from Friday night into the early hours of Saturday at a city-owned building.

A representative from the Danville Fire Department stated that they received the fire alert at about 10:13 p.m. The location was at the corner of N Logan Ave. and W Harrison St., close to Chandler and W Madison Streets, in an area recognized as “Madison Square.” The fire-affected building, owned by the City of Danville, is referred to as a “taxpayer” building. It previously functioned as a business on the ground floor with residential apartments above.

The fire occurred on the second floor. The site was cleared by 3:14 a.m., approximately five hours from when the emergency call was made.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported due to the fire. The cost of the damage remains unspecified for now, as the Danville Fire Department is in the process of completing the final report.

On scene, Danville Fire was assisted by local EMT workers and an ambulance.
