Is Aaron Rodgers playing today? Mason Rudolph to play Steelers QB as Rodgers missing game against Bears due to wrist injury

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers have confirmed that quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not take the field this Sunday against the Chicago Bears due to a fracture in his left wrist.

Initially listed as questionable, Rodgers was seen wearing a brace during Friday’s practice session, where he participated to a limited extent.

As a result, Mason Rudolph is set to replace Rodgers under center, with the Steelers aiming to secure just their second victory in Chicago. Their previous success came on November 5, 1995, when they triumphed over the Bears 37-34 in an overtime thriller at Soldier Field.

“Aaron gave it his all throughout the week, but ultimately, this is the cautious decision for the team,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin shared with CBS before the game. “He won’t be playing this week. Mason will start, having taken the majority of the practice reps.”

Rodgers, who celebrates his 42nd birthday on December 2, sustained his injury during the second quarter of last week’s 34-12 victory over Cincinnati. Looking ahead, the Steelers will face the Buffalo Bills at home next Sunday, followed by a crucial AFC North clash in Baltimore on December 7.

Throughout his career, Rodgers has consistently outperformed Chicago, a pattern established during his extensive tenure with Green Bay. The four-time MVP boasts an impressive 25-5 record against the Bears, including playoff encounters.

Rodgers, the most sacked quarterback in NFL history, has been highly durable during his 21-year career. He missed time in 2013 and 2017 with a broken collarbone while playing for Green Bay, and he was sidelined for most of the 2023 season with the New York Jets because of a torn Achilles tendon.

He has completed 66.4% of his passes for 1,969 yards and 19 touchdowns in his first season with Pittsburgh. He also has thrown seven interceptions.
