Paige Deville reveals she quit Gogglebox after ‘falling out’ with her mother

Paige Deville has revealed the real reason she quit Gogglebox because of a fall out with her mother Sally who she has ‘nothing to do with’ anymore.

The armchair critic, 24, announced she quit Gogglebox on Friday with a scathing tweet where she slammed the show’s producers for giving her ‘zero aftercare.’

However, she has now admitted that her mother was the one to quit first, and is the reason she has left too amid a bitter feud between the pair.

Feud: Paige Deville has revealed the real reason she quit Gogglebox because of a fall out with her mother Sally who she has ‘nothing to do with’ anymore

Paige told BirminghamLive: ‘There have been problems within the family and my mum was given an ultimatum. The decision means I have nothing to do with her now. I think the decision is irreversible. It is very sad but that’s life unfortunately.’

She then revealed that she was offered to work with another family but refused because ‘my mum and myself had started the journey together and I wasn’t going to film with anyone else.’

MailOnline have contacted Channel 4’s representatives for further comment.

The revelation comes after she wrote a scathing Tweet about the show on Friday where she announced her exit: ‘It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support

‘But hey who cares about ex cast, they’re NTA winners,’ seethed the TV personality as she bid her final farewell to the show hours before its return to Channel 4.

A Gogglebox representative told the MailOnline: ‘The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.’

Paige’s online rant refers to Gogglebox winning a National Television Award in the factual category at the industry event’s star-studded ceremony last week.

The accolade came ahead of the show sweeping back onto screens for its 18th season this Friday – without many of its favourite cast members.

Sad news: Paige's exit comes at a turbulent time for 'Gogglebox' which has seen several of their TV 'experts' leave whilst there has also been a number of sad bereavements, including Pete McGarry who died aged 71 in June (pictured with his wife Linda)

Pete McGarry died in June, aged 71, after a short illness, and Andrew Michael, 61, and Mary Cook, 92, passed away in August.

And it has been confirmed that Pete’s other half Linda, Andrew’s wife Carolyne and children Louis and Alex, and Mary’s friend Marina Wingrove won’t be back on screens for the time being.

Paige’s allegations of ‘long hours’ and ‘restrictiveness’ come after Gogglebox production staff alleged they were ‘screamed at for 12 hours a day’ earlier this year.

Staff claimed they suffered ‘inhumane’ working conditions on the Channel 4 show, and allegedly suggested they were told not to disrupt filming by going into Covid self-isolation.

Studio Lambert, the company which produces the popular programme, came under fire after it received complaints from several members of staff, The Guardian reported at the time.

While the show was used as part of Channel 4’s #StayAtHome campaign, staff were reported to have claimed they were told to avoid having to self-isolate.

There were also claims that off-screen staff were allegedly forced to go without breaks and work excessive hours to ensure the hit show was ready.

One ex-employee apparently said it was the worst job they ever had, claiming the way staff were treated was at times ‘inhumane’.

As concerns began to emerge, the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union (Bectu) – which supports staff and freelancers working in the media and entertainment industry – were said to have been contacted.

Specifically, the union is working towards making working conditions better for those working in reality TV.

It launched its #UnseenOnScreen campaign through its Unscripted Branch, which aims to raise awareness of bullying and harassment in the TV sector.

Several complaints have reportedly been submitted to the Bectu about Studio Lambert and the union said it was attempting to arrange a meeting with the production company.

A Studio Lambert spokesperson said: ‘Studio Lambert takes the welfare of its teams extremely seriously across all its productions, and has a number of measures in place to encourage people to come forward with any concerns they may have, as well as support systems for a range of issues.’

Channel 4 are said to have set up a whistleblower service for staff, a move reportedly welcomed by Gogglebox employees.
