DALLAS — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice received a 30-day jail sentence on Thursday. Officials reported that he and another speeding driver were responsible for a chain-reaction accident that resulted in several injuries on a Dallas highway last year.

According to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Rice admitted to two third-degree felonies of collision causing serious injury and highway racing leading to bodily harm during the March 30, 2024, incident. As part of his plea deal, Rice received a sentence of five years of deferred probation and 30 days of incarceration as a probationary condition, prosecutors revealed.

Prosecutors said he was also required to pay the victims for their out-of-pocket medical expenses, which totaled about $115,000.

At the time of the collision, Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at a speed of 119 mph and engaged in “multiple aggressive maneuvers around traffic,” resulting in other vehicles being hit, according to prosecutors. They added that Rice did not check on those impacted in the other cars and instead fled the scene on foot.

The news release from prosecutors included a statement from Rice that was released by his attorney. Rice said in the statement that he’s had “a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole.”

“I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property,” Rice said in the statement. “I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
