CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – An arrest was made Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash that ended in the death of a 22-year-old over a year ago in Orange Park.
Sorie Brown is facing vehicular homicide and other charges, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jerry Stepp was heading to collect his first payment for painting work he had finished at his new job on February 6, 2023, as shared by his father, Jerol Stepp, in an earlier interview with News4JAX.
Jerry was driving on Blanding Boulevard toward this intersection of Orange Park Northway right outside of the Orange Park Mall.
According to an FHP report, Brown drove an SUV through the light and hit Jerry’s car, causing him to lose control and flip several times. Jerry was ejected from the blue Chevrolet Tahoe.
Brown ran away from the scene after the incident.
Jerry died from his injuries three days after the crash.
Brown is in the Clay County jail with a $750,000 bond.
