An independent candidate running in Canberra has had her campaign posters defaced with anti-Semitic slurs.
Kim Rubenstein posted a photo of one of her corflutes with other signs stuck on top of them, reading “Vote 1 Kosher Kim” with yellow stars next to her name.
“This was hurtful to see, of course. For those unaware, ‘Shoah’ is the Hebrew word for the Holocaust, and Jews were forced to wear yellow stars in Germany under the Nazis,” she wrote alongside the image.
Ms Rubenstein said while she has a “thick skin” it serves as a reminder to call out discrimination and bigotry.
Last week Josh Frydenberg decried vandals targeting his election campaign signs after they were defaced with swastikas in Melbourne.
The Federal Treasuruer said his signs had been disproportionately targeted in the electorate of Kooyong, reiterating any reference to Nazism and anti-Semitism was “completely unacceptable.”
“I can only talk for what I’ve seen in my electorate and on one side of the road you can see my boards, which have been graffitied, defaced and vandalised in a despicable way,” Mr Frydenberg said.
“I’m not just talking about blacking out a tooth or dare I say, putting hair on my head or whatever the case may be.
“I’m talking about swastikas, I’m talking about Hitler moustaches, I’m talking about the language which is completely unacceptable.”
