The Brunswick Police Department said 15-year-old Jerrod Foster was found shot outside an apartment complex in January. Four people are now charged with his murder.
BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Four people, including three teenagers, are facing murder charges after a 15-year-old was shot outside of an apartment complex in January and later died, according to the Brunswick Police Department.
Police said 15-year-old Jerrod Foster was found shot along Tillman Avenue on Jan. 24, and died as a result of his injuries one week later.
The night of the shooting, police arrested and charged Derrick Heidt, 21, with multiple crimes, including attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, aggravated assault and discharging a firearm near a public highway. His charges were upgraded to murder after Foster’s death.
Investigators then identified and charged three teenagers with murder in connection with the shooting.
On Feb. 11, police arrested and charged Kalif Bludson, 16, with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes in connection with Foster’s death.
One week later, on Feb. 18, police arrested and charged Divine Scott, 15, with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes. Police said Scott was already in custody on an unrelated charge when the warrants were served.
On Thursday, March 27, Travis Coleman, 15, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.
James Rogers left Chicago years ago to escape the violence plaguing his city. However, after living in Brunswick for five years, he feels like the environment is similar to the one he tried to leave behind.
“I got away from Chicago to get away from that situation and raise my kids in a better situation,” Rogers told First Coast News.
Rogers lives on the same street where Foster was shot. His oldest son was friends with Foster.
“It makes me realize how present I need to be to help guide him,” said Rogers.
The father of five is calling on parents to pay closer attention to their children.
“If we know better, we’d do better. But we know better and we’re not doing better,” he said. “We need to get together as a community and look out for each other guide these young men.”
Andrea Moore is a mother and neighbor who shares the same sentiments as Rogers.
“It’s so many things that you could be doing. Keeping them out of the streets,” said Moorse, “parents need to be more aware of what their kids are doing. Where are they? What is going on?”
The U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office and Glynn County Police Department assisted in the investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to contact Detective Melissa Howell at (912) 279-2606 or Silent Witness at (912) 267-5516 to remain anonymous.
