NORTH PARK —
San Diego police on Wednesday released the name of a 23-year-old man who was fatally stabbed over the weekend in a North Park alley.
The man was identified as Nikko Guardado, who was attacked in an alley near Bancroft and Dwight streets Saturday afternoon. He was a passenger in a red Ford Focus that officers pulled over for speeding and other traffic violations about 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and Texas Street, police said.
It turned out the driver, Guardado’s companion, was rushing Guardado to a hospital, police said. When officers approached the car and discovered Guardado, who was bleeding heavily, they summoned paramedics, who took him to a hospital, where he died.
A day later, on Sunday, police arrested a suspect, 32-year-old Alberto Barraza, at his home on Bancroft Street near the alley where the fatal attack occurred. Police would not say how they identified Barraza as the suspect or if he knew Guardado.
