Police investigating disappearance of woman, 20, find a body and re-arrest 52-year-old man for her murder

A student who went missing a fortnight ago has been found dead in woodland on an industrial estate by detectives – who have now re-arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of her murder.
Somaiya Begum, 20, was last seen at her home where she lived with her grandmother and uncle in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on Saturday June 25 at around 2pm.
She was reported missing the next day, sparking a massive search operation.
West Yorkshire Police arrested one man, two other men and a woman and they had been bailed from custody pending further inquiries.
This morning the force said it had re-arrested a man, 52, on suspicion of murder.
Police and forensics officers had initially been seen searching one industrial site which is bordered by a number of shipping containers.
Ms Begum’s body was found on a different estate last night at 7.35pm.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: ‘Detectives investigating the disappearance of Somaiya Begum from Bradford have found a body.

‘Extensive enquiries have been carried out since she was reported missing on June 26 to find her, officers would like to thank the community in assisting the investigation which is ongoing.
‘At 7.35pm yesterday evening a body was found near Fitzwilliam Street, Bradford.
‘A scene is in place whilst forensic examinations are ongoing. Although formal identification has yet to take place the family of Somaiya have been informed.
‘A 52 year old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.’

Police had described Ms Begum as Asian, slim build with black hair, and said she was wearing black denim jeans, a black top and black head scarf before she vanished
She was known to frequent the Barkerend area of Bradford and Leeds Beckett University campus, where she was believed to be a student.
At the time Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes had said: ‘Over the past couple of days there have been extensive police enquiries across Bradford to find Somaiya.
‘We are extremely concerned for Somaiya’s welfare, her disappearance is completely out of character.
‘Specialist search officers, neighbourhood police patrols, drones, and dogs have all been used in the investigation.
‘Officers continue to trawl CCTV, conduct house to house enquiries and have spoken to several people in the area.
‘Somaiya’s disappearance remains unexplained at this time.
‘I would like to appeal to the community and to anyone who might know where Somaiya is or who has any information which might assist our investigation to come forward.’
