YONKERS, New York (WABC) — A Yonkers police officer was shot during an incident on Elm Street Wednesday afternoon.

There was gunfire exchanged around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Elm Street and Lincoln Street.

The veteran police officer was shot in the abdomen during the exchange.

The suspect was also injured but their condition is unknown at this time.

According to the Yonkers mayor, the officer and suspect are being transported to Jacobi Hospital.

The officer was just one week away from retiring.

No other details have been released at this time, check back for updates.
