BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A man was arrested Sunday night after police responded to a fire at Academy Sports in Brunswick, according to the Glynn County Police Department (GCPD).

James Morris, 44, faces charges of first-degree arson and second-degree criminal damage to property, both felonies.

The police department said officers and firefighters with the Glynn County Fire Department responded to the sports store after people reported an individual was setting bookbags on fire inside the store.

According to GCPD, Morris was identified as the suspect, and left the store and went to another business in the shopping plaza after the fire broke out. Police said an officer then “quickly located” Morris and took him into custody after arriving on scene.

“Store employees were able to extinguish the fire with assistance from the Glynn County Fire Department, which confirmed the area was safe and free of further hazards,” GCPD said in a news release. “No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.”
