President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that his government would officially label the far-left activist group Antifa as a terrorist organization.
The president announced the move on his platform, Truth Social.
“I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, is now being designated as a MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION,” Trump announced. “Additionally, I will strongly advise that those who fund ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated following the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for focusing on this issue!”
A White House representative later confirmed to CNN that this label is “one of several measures the president will implement to confront left-wing organizations instigating political violence.”
The president’s decision follows the killing of conservative figure Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University last week, carried out by a young individual allegedly motivated by leftist beliefs. According to News, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller affirmed on Monday that they would utilize the entire federal government to dismantle the organized left-wing domestic terrorist movement in the U.S.
Although Antifa claims to be an anti-fascist group, they have often been involved in “doxxing, violence, and intimidation,” a fact highlighted by Fox News.
The bullet casings discovered near the weapon suspected to have been used in Charlie Kirk’s assassination bore the engravings, “Hey fascist! Catch!” and “Bella ciao bella ciao ciao,” which refers to “an anti-fascist song that gained fame among the Italian resistance during World War II,” according to Fox News.
