Prince Andrew has reached a settlement with Virginia Giuffre — who had accused him of sexually abusing her when she was 17, according to documents filed in a New York federal court on Wednesday.

Giuffre’s attorney, David Boies, wrote that they have reached a settlement and “anticipate filing a stipulation of dismissal of the case within 30 days.” Boies also asked U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan to suspend all deadlines regarding the pending civil case.

The terms of the settlement have not been released to the public. In an unsigned letter, Prince Andrew, 61, acknowledged that Giuffre suffered trauma due to being sex trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

“It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others,” Prince Andrew wrote in a letter obtained by the New York Post.

In her lawsuit, Giuffre had accused Prince Andrew and Epstein of sexually assaulting her multiple times in 2001. Prince Andrew has denied those claims.

Last month, the terms of a 2009 settlement between Giuffre and Epstein were released to the public as part of Giuffre’s lawsuit against Prince Andrew. The document revealed that Giuffre was paid $500,000 in the settlement.

Prince Andrew’s legal team has argued that the 2009 settlement legally shielded him from civil lawsuits like the one Giuffre had filed against him. He had also tried to stop the stipulations of Giuffre’s 2009 settlement from being released to the public.

As part of the 2009 settlement, Giuffre agreed to “release, acquit, satisfy, and forever discharge” Epstein and “any other person or entity who could have been included as a potential defendant.”

Prince Andrew contended that the decade-old settlement legally shielded him from civil lawsuits like the one Giuffre has filed against him. While he was not mentioned by name in the settlement, he is presumably arguing that he was referenced as a “potential defendant.”
