FIVE individuals have been hospitalized following an incident where a private plane slipped off a runway and ended up crashing into a river, coming to rest about 100 feet away.
The incident occurred when the small aircraft strayed off the tarmac at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in North Bend, Oregon, on Monday morning.
Airport officials reported that the plane, carrying five people, departed from Runway 23 and entered Coos Bay shortly after 6 a.m.
The four passengers and one crew member were all rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital.
Officials say their conditions are unknown.
All commercial air traffic on the airport’s main runway has been suspended whilst the investigation into the crash continues.
The National Transportation Safety Board has asked for the plane to be removed from the water, according to officials.
