THOMSON, Ga. ()- Three years after James Wilson killed his wife Virginia “Sue” Wilson, he appeared before a judge and the District Attorney Thursday.

After entering a plea deal in court, he was sentenced to 15 years without parole in confinement, and 20 years on probation.

The assistant DA recalling the events during the early hours of September 7th, 2022.

“The Sheriff was the first to arrive at the scene. Upon arrival, he found the defendant in the front yard, kneeling and holding a 38-caliber pistol against his chest. The defendant confessed to the Sheriff, saying, ‘I’ve made a mess; I’ve killed her,'” recounted Terry Lloyd.

After getting arrested in a standoff, Wilson was charged with murder and possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors say Wilson shot his 75-year-old wife in the head while she was sleeping.

Wilson’s attorney requesting a plea deal considering his health and age.

“We are discussing a man who is currently 77 years old. His health is stable, though he is frail. He struggles with managing his diet and has difficulty understanding his own bodily functions,” explained Grant Usry.

Judge Chip Hardin agreeing to the plea deal, sentencing Wilson to 15 years without parole in confinement, along with 20 years on probation.

“The court does find that the negotiated plea in this case serves the best interest of justice, and welfare of society,” Hardin said.

The other part of the deal prohibits Wilson from contacting family members, unless the family initiates it.

Family members made remarks in court, reflecting on Sue Wilson’s life before her death.

They fought back tears addressing the judge, and the defense.

“I’m uncertain if I possess the capacity to forgive him for his actions, yet I will entrust the final judgment to God. I pray for God to grant him mercy when he reaches heaven’s gates, as only God can offer that grace,” expressed Betsy Milburn, Wilson’s niece.

After completing the first 15 years of the sentence, Wilson will be 92 years old.
