The sheriff’s office said when the man was brought to jail, deputies found 11 small sandwich bags tied up with a “crystal-like substance” in his underwear.
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested in Putnam County on Wednesday for trafficking drugs with two young children in a car, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PSCO) said in a post on Facebook Tuesday.
Thomas Carpenter, 41, faces charges of trafficking amphetamine or methamphetamine 14 grams or over, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver, two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, smuggling contraband into a county detention facility and three counts of drug paraphernalia, according to PCSO.
PCSO said on Wednesday morning, a deputy stopped Carpenter’s car for traffic violations.
A woman who was a passenger in the car and whose identity was not released by the sheriff’s office told the deputy she and Carpenter had smoked marijuana in the car before the traffic stop. PCSO said neither Carpenter nor the woman had a medical marijuana card with them at the time.
As deputies talked to Carpenter, the sheriff’s office says he kept falling in and out of sleep. Deputies then found a bag inside the car, which included drug paraphernalia, marijuana and “possible methamphetamine,” according to PCSO.

Deputies then arrested Carpenter and took him into custody at the Putnam County Jail, while the woman was released at the scene, PCSO’s post states.
“Due to the children being in the car, a copy of the report was sent to the Department of Children and Families,” the post states.
When Carpenter arrived at the jail, the sheriff’s office said deputies found 11 small sandwich bags tied up with a “crystal-like substance” in his underwear. PCSO said the substance in the bags tested positive for meth, in total weighing about 322.1 grams.
According to PCSO, Carpenter violated his parole when deputies arrested him. He was released from a prison in Florida in December after serving a three-year sentence on unknown charges.
